The Paperwhite has a flush front screen that adds a thin plastic layer over the E Ink display, and the entry-level Kindle has an indented screen. The light on the Paperwhite is more evenly-lit, though the basic Kindle’s light is pretty good too, but the color of the light is more natural on the Paperwhite with the adjustable color temperature.

The Paperwhite has 17 LEDs for the frontlight with options for warm and cool color tones, and the Kindle has 4 LEDs with a cool-colored frontlight only. There is now the possibility to select between 8 GB and 16 GB of storage, which will satisfy many potential customers who would have seen 8 GB as simply too miserly for their reading habits.

However, one issue with the 11th-gen Kindle slate was its very meager storage allowance of 8 GB. The Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 5 e-reader was released in October 2021 and like most Kindle e-readers it has received rave reviews for its display that offers easy reading and its sterling battery life.
